Construction Equipment Operator Training Centre

The Operator Training Centre(OTC) was established in 1982 with assistance of the International Development Association of the World Bank. This training centre, situated in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka, has all necessary facilities to provide training to construction equipment operators and related personnel. The trainers are highly competent and the fleet consists of about 60 equipment for training. A large practice field is available for the trainees to operate the machines freely. Dormitory facilities, canteen and recreational facilities are available for the residential trainees. Persons who  under go training at this centre are successful in finding gainful employment either in Sri Lanka or overseas.

Training methodology

Training courses conducted at OTC cover safety, maintenance and operating techniques of construction equipment. These courses are conducted in two stages. In the first stage, about 70% of the time is allocated for gaining hands-on operating skills while the balance 30% is allocated for theoretical training. On completion of this training, the trainees achieve minimum employable skills levels. In the second stage the trainees undergo On-The-Job Training (OJT) and reinforce their skills acquired at the training centre.
